Confrontational Portraits

For my project brief, I had to take formal portraits of twenty strangers out in public space.

The subjects were to be photographed using a standard lens and with available lighting. The purpose of the project was to demonstrate being able to create consistent work and to demonstrate my people management skills. All the photos taken during this exercise were shot on one day in Cardiff, and as the brief specified, none of the subjects were known to me beforehand. This exercise was to me, one of the most uncomfortable tasks that I have ever carried out in my time as a photographer. I found that this task conflicted with my own style of photography, as the method of working goes against my personal work ethos. That being said, I believe that my images are good and consistent. I feel that I have demonstrated my ability to create consistent control of both composition and exposure.
